Magda Heuermann correspondence and memorabilia, 1901-1921.

Correspondence (7 items) received by Magda Heuermann, 1906-1911, along with a print portrait of Vasili Vereshchagin (page of exhibition brochure) autographed by him for her in December 1901, when he was at the Art Institute of Chicago for an opening of an exhibition of his paintings. The correspondence is from 6 correspondents, including the German painters Eduard von Grützner, Franz von Stuck, Fritz von Uhde, and Heinrich von Zügler. The remaining correspondents are: M. Jahn, of Berlin, who refers to having published an edition of Lessing's Nathan der Weise; and Johanna Geissler, who writes a note on a German postcard featuring a drawing by Wilhelm II. Topics include requests by Heuermann to arrange a meeting or to obtain reproductions of the work of fellow painters. Three items reflect a stay by Heuermann in Munich in summer 1909. Also included are 14 emergency currency notes, valued at 50 Pfenning apiece, from the city of Eisenach, dated 1921, in two different designs, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Martin Luther at the Wartburg.
